Deployment Story – Steel Manufacturing Factory
They wanted to connect everybody in the factory to the LAN.
Since cable could not be drawn, they wanted reliable wireless network throughout the factory.
Support for future applications like wireless surveillance cameras, bar code scanning system, etc.
We deployed four Jupicom APO-U-D10 Access Points.

They manufacture and distribute elevator system and services to the Elevator industry. They have a large factory at Taloja, near Mumbai that comprises a large shed, housing the office, stores and factory floor and yard. Their products, Guide Rails and accessories are made from steel angles and bars.
There are not many users but they need LAN connectivity throughout the factory. The primary need is for connectivity intranet and internet. Also to be factored was future applications like wireless video surveillance, bar code scanners etc.
The Existing Environment
The existing environment was wired to few terminals and those users that needed Internet connectivity were provided with USB Modem. Only the office area in the plant had a LAN and rest of the plant was isolated because it was not possible to draw cables. This created a lot of operational challenges and inefficiencies.
Machinery used for manufacturing was made of heavy metal, the raw material and the finished products were steel. With massive quantities of signal-reflecting steel and the violent vibrations created by the machinery, the facility was decidedly unfriendly to wireless.
The company was using a wired LAN in the office area while users in the store and factory floor functioned in stand-alone mode.
The challenge was to design the network to work reliably despite the tons of signal-reflecting steel throughout the plant. Building wireless network in this sea of steel was going to be a huge challenge.
Because of the rugged environment we deployed four Jupicom APO-U-D10 wireless Access Points at the predefined locations and what happened was a revelation. Our access points actually exploited the reflection of the steel and turned the building itself into a giant antenna and provided coverage throughout the designated areas.
Now everyone is connected to the LAN and internet irrespective of their location in the factory.
The Benefits and Results
The employees have LAN access to their ERP and Accounts servers from anywhere on the premises. This has facilitated faster update of manufacturing forecasts and inventory status to the network, as the store and factory floor are now connected.
The existing analogue video surveillance infrastructure can be upgraded to wireless IP cameras eliminating the need for maintenance heavy, cabled infrastructure.
They now have a robust and a flexible “future ready” network for all data, voice and video applications.
